Founder, Mama Diam

Sebastian Ang

Crafting nostalgia-fueled experiences in plain sight. At 32, Sebastian Ang has redefined Singapore nightlife by transforming everyday façades like a hole-in-the-wall “mama shop” on Prinsep Street into immersive dining and drinking destinations. His flagship, Mama Diam, has taken social media by storm with its secret-door entrance, retro snacks, HDB-style furnishings, and a menu that reimagines local flavours in creative cocktails and bites.

Mama Diam’s success sparked new concepts. Synthesis, hidden behind a 1970s-style TCM hall façade in Suntec, and Lou Shang, an HDB-themed café and evening bar upstairs from Mama Diam, each pay homage to disappearing community institutions while showcasing Sebastian’s vision of culture-rich, locally inspired design.

His boldest move? Investing in hidden bars during a pandemic, and bringing them to life with DIY spirit, a nostalgic heart, and fearless creativity. Mama Diam is more than a bar, it’s a portal into memory, culture, and community-driven innovation.
